Flight Patterns brings together the energy of birds and the bold geometry of quilt‑block backgrounds I’ve reinterpreted through my own visual language. These small works honour the women makers in my family and offer moments of colour, character, and quiet grounding.
Flight Patterns is a collection of smaller works that pair the energy of birds with bold, graphic quilt‑block backgrounds. Each background draws from traditional quilting patterns—reinterpreted through my own visual language—to honour the lineage of women makers in my family and the long history of quilt‑making as a creative, resourceful, and often undervalued form of women’s work.
These pieces offer a sense of calm and a touch of whimsy: distilled compositions where the personality of each bird meets structure, where nature meets geometry, and where the wild meets the handcrafted. Birds have long been central to my practice, symbolising freedom and the steadying presence of the natural world. Here, they become small anchors of colour and character—figures that invite pause, connection, and a moment of grounding.
